Unsal Al founded Luminar Energy to address the critical power bottlenecks constraining data center growth—at a time when global hyperscaler power demand is set to double within three to five years, at a pace that traditional grid infrastructure is structurally unable to match.
Prior to founding Luminar, Unsal spent 17 years at Shell Energy Europe in London, serving in various leadership roles including most recently as Head of Flexibility for European Power—directly overseeing some of the largest power origination and flexibility programmes across the UK and Europe.

Behind Luminar is a team with deep roots in energy markets. We have spent careers leading power trading desks, originating and structuring long-term PPAs across multiple jurisdictions, building and operating renewable asset portfolios at scale, and negotiating directly with hyperscalers, energy intensive consumers and infrastructure investors.
We combine institutional-grade expertise across power trading, origination, asset development, and infrastructure investment with the commercial instinct and market relationships that only come from years of doing this at the highest level.
